How To See Dolphins In Clearwater Beach

Florida is known for great sightseeing opportunities like watching dolphins. And, thanks to our warm climate, you can see dolphins all year in Clearwater. It’s a great idea to add a trip out on the water if you’re looking to spot these lovable creatures.

Dolphin Clearwater

Spot Dolphins From The Shoreline

Likely the cheapest way to see dolphins is from the beach itself. Dolphins can often be seen from the shore as they travel in groups of 3 or more. And, while Clearwater Beach is a good option, there are some nearby beaches you’ll likely see them from as well.

Here are nearby beaches where dolphins are often spotted:

  • Honeymoon Island / Dunedin Beach
  • Caladesi Island State Park
  • Indian Rocks Beach
  • Madeira Beach
  • Treasure Island
  • St Pete Beach

Rent a Kayak

Getting out on the water is the best way to spot dolphins. And, there are many ways you can get out there. One great way is to rent a kayak. There are some great options for kayak rentals. We have been on a few. Our favorite is in Dunedin. The water way can be a little busy, but your chances of seeing dolphins here in the late afternoon are pretty high.

Rent a Jet Ski

Here is another way to get up close and personal with dolphins. Be sure to rent from a reputable company that will take you on a tour. Ask them where to see dolphins so they can take you on the best route in the Intracoastal Water Way (ICW).

Group Boat Trips

Boat trips can be an affordable way for your small group to get on the water and look for dolphins. There are some excellent boat trips in the area. Although most of these boat trips are short (less than 2 hours), it’s likely you’ll see some dolphins. Here are some good boat tours we’d recommend:

  • The Tropics Boat Tours
  • Shark Teeth and Shells
  • Mega Bite Dolphin Tour Boat
  • Little Toot Dolphin Adventure

Private Boat Charter

Spot Dolphins

A private boat charter is probably the best chance you’ll have to see dolphins. Private charters are long (over 3 hours) and personalized for your group. Since you’ll be spending more time on the water, you will be more likely to see dolphins and get great photos too! Your charter guide will know exactly where dolphins like to be and when they will be there. So, get ready to take some pictures and video!

Flying Pelican Tours is a private boat charter that runs from Bellaire Boat Ramp to Dunedin. They have a variety of charter trips designed so you can watch dolphins, go shelling, island hopping, or even visit Caladesi Island State Park!
